Medtronic stent gets Food and Drug Administration approval for new indication

Medical device maker Medtronic Inc. said Wednesday that the Food and Drug Administration has approved a new indication for one of the company's stents, which are wire-mesh tubes intended to keep blood vessels from getting blocked.

Medtronic said its "Complete SE Vascular Stent System" is approved for treatment of peripheral arterial disease in the iliac arteries, major blood vessels of the pelvis that supply blood to the lower body.

The company's shares fell 53 cents to $44.64 in morning trading.
