A recent study published in the Journal of The American College of Cardiology points up some interesting facts about anxiety and the risks of heart attacks associated with it. It was a long term study and followed 50,000 Swedish men for thirty seven years! Basically it found that those who had had experienced anxiety between the ages of 18 and 20 were twice as likely to develop heart disease in middle age than those who had been free of anxiety in the same period. Interestingly enough, those who suffered from depression were not at risk of heart disease. It did not address the question of what cures anxiety.
Before looking at what cures anxiety, let us look at what precautions we should take if we have suffered from anxiety or panic attacks at some point during our lives. To offset the risks of a heart problem, patients need to do some aerobic exercise, reduce stress and forget about smoking.
They say a little anxiety goes a long way in the sense that we do not need much of it at all in our lives. After all, a little is useful to keep us alert in times of danger. Here we are using the normal fight or flight response which is essential at times. If this response is prolonged, then it starts to compromise our health.
So what cures anxiety and are there natural ways?
I know lots of people who have tried sage tea which is great for soothing nerves. The Chinese herb tea Fo-Ti-Tieng is also known to be beneficial.
I know other people who swear that by taking homeopathic remedies, they can gain the upper hand on anxiety disorders and they can start living again. Aconite is used when there is a feeling of a panic attack coming on or in a situation which is causing great fear. For those people who suffer from anxiety as regards their health, arsenicum album is found to be effective. Those people who are anxious about a job interview or an examination, argentums nitricum is sometimes indicated.
Finally in assessing what really cures anxiety, everybody will choose a different path and indeed many people will find relief in using the classic anti anxiety medications although sometimes the side effects will cause them some more stress and discomfort. Generally though, the herbal remedies such as St.John's Wort and the Passion Flower have an excellent safety record and have been known to be just as efficient as the medications.
